Why does the bible have authority? To answer, I may have simply stated “because it does”, of course this answer doesn’t suffice, people need details. After studying about the bible’s power to convict, convince and convert, I have a new respect for the authority of the bible. The bible quite simply is the Word of God. It is able to substantiate its authority through its own internal and external evidences. Internal evidences include the self-proclamation, guidance of the Holy Spirit, transforming ability, and its power to unite. External evidences include its indestructibility, archaeology, and prophecy.
There is no other book in the world that is able to support itself in this manner. The bible is the only book that claims divine inspiration. It is the divine testimony of Jesus and His claim to be the Son of God; He confirms this through His magnificent life and resurrection. His life was recorded in four Gospels, all events being proven accurate by first-hand eyewitnesses. The bible covers numerous topics and circumstances. It was written on three different continents. Each author had a specific purpose for writing. Not once does the bible contradict itself.
It is this consistency that gives the bible its reliability and further proves its authority. III. Why are personal testimonies important in sharing the gospel? I believe personal testimonies are important in sharing the gospel because we are commanded to do so by God. He specifically instructs us to go into the world and preach the gospel to every creature. It is the sheer desire to be obedient to God’s command that should drive us to spread the Word to others. To be able to testify in the name of God is a powerful and inspiring thing. God is worthy to be praised and evangelism will give Him what He has already earned on the cross.
Our love for the lost should also be a driving force in sharing personal testimonies. This often involves the task of fighting evil, but the world around us needs our testimony. Without God’s grace, the sinner will not stop sinning. The lost must know the fate that awaits them. No value can be placed on what the lost may receive from the testimony of a true believer. By sharing your personal testimony you may be opening the door for a soul to be saved. To walk with God means we are willing to put aside our own needs and share His concerns for the lost. To the praise of His glorious grace” (Ephesians 1:6) is our salvation. Jesus’ actions were all motivated by His desire to glorify God. This too should be our desire. We should lift Him up and glorify Him. Our love of God should inspire us to go into the world and tell the truth about Him. To tell the truth about Him is to honor him. Christians who do not witness forfeit their heavenly rewards. IV. If a person is a Christian, does it matter how they live their life? It most certainly does matter how a Christian lives their life.
God expects all Christians to discipline his/her outward life to reflect Him. denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;” (Titus 2:12-13). Jesus was committed to His followers; He loved the lost, and reprimanded those who thought they were religiously superior. We should all live with a goal to be more like Him. The decision to live a worldly lifestyle as opposed to a Christian lifestyle may impact others negatively. Christians are free, but “do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful ature; rather, serve one another in love” (Gal. 5:13). One’s spiritual freedom must not infringe on or harm another. We must be models of Christianity at all times and practice what we preach. We must show others the way. We must treat all others with respect and kindness. We must pray for our enemies. We must be patient and forgiving. We must help those less fortunate. We must share our beliefs and spread the Word. We must support new believers and mentor them. V. Conclusion Christians must continue to expand their knowledge of the Lord. It is a necessity for the progression of Christianity.
In these perilous times, God’s light is desperately needed. Strong Christians and strong church organizations must set an example for a world that is moving further and further away from His way. If everyone on this earth would begin to live in God’s way, what a wonderful place it would be. This course has given me a new awareness and has given me new tools to explain Christianity to others. Each week, I have found myself sharing new information with anyone who would listen. Overall, it has enhanced my knowledge of Him and helped my light shine a little brighter.
