Students: Population is 55% native English speaking, 45% native Spanish speaking. Parent body is very involved.
Language of Instruction:
- 3- and 4-year-olds:
75% native language, 25% second language
- 5-8 year-olds:
60% native language, 40% second language
- 9-12 year-olds:
50% native language, 50% second language
Requirements: Must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, which includes student teaching. Bilingual/biliterate (English/Spanish) required in Spanish environment, preferred in English environment. Strong background in multicultural education; sensitivity to linguistic, cultural and socio-economic differences within community. Must be American Montessori Society or American Montessori International trained, or willing to undergo training over the summer. Must undergo dual language training during the academic year.
